WELCOME TO AACHEN

Aachen – located in the border triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, known for waterpower, gingerbread cookies called "Printen", city of the International Charlemagne Prize and of a considerable cultural wealth. City of wells and monuments, famous for the World Festival of Equestrian Sports but also stronghold to the Rhenish Carneval.

But not to forget: Aachen is a charming city of international flair supported by architectural highlights like the Carlovingian Dome or the Gothic Town Hall where Charlemagne used to have his residency. Not only he appreciated the healing power of thermal and mineral springs in Aachen.

The Dome and the Town Hall represent the core of the city, being a stone testimonial of the significant history and the impressive power of Charlemagne.

The Dome – symbol of Aachen – and the Dome Treasure were added to the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1978, being the first cultural monument within German borders and the second one worldwide.

Moreover, Aachen is city of science and home to two universities – the RWHT Aachen University, one of the biggest Technical Universities in Europe, and the University of Applied Science.

For 2.000 years now Aachen has accommodated visitors of many different countries and has since then developed to one of the most frequently visited cities in Germany.
